This art box is loaded with lessons to keep students learning for weeks! It includes 9 video lessons, plenty of 18 and 26 gauge wire, and a wire wrapping tool kit featuring chain-nose pliers, round-nose pliers, flush cutters, a metal bench block, a ball-peen hammer, and natural stone beads.

The first set of lessons will dive into the "science" and history of wire wrapping. Students will learn the difference between dead-soft, half-hard, and full-hard wire, so they will know how to shop for wire if they wish to continue the art of wire wrapping.

We will also take a trip through time to see how the ancients used these same tools. Students will learn about Tutankhamun's Usekh Collar, which uses gold wire to keep fragile stones secure, and Middle Kingdom scarab rings, where thin wire was threaded through carved stone to create protective amulets.

Using their pliers, students will practice making jump rings, clovers, connecting beads, and sturdy shapes like circles and squares. Next, they will move into the art of the bead bridge. They will learn how to weave thin wire across their geometric frames to create handmade clasps that will lock small, colorful beads in place.

The following videos will be all about organic flow. Using shaping molds, students will learn to "orbit" their wire to create smooth, circular spirals and S-curves. In the final lessons, students will use the bench block and hammer to add texture. They will use the flat face of the hammer for planishing and the ball peen (the rounded side) to create "facets"—tiny, shimmering dimples that will catch the light.

Finally, they will create a heavy-duty hook using a double-wire fold and will learn to fasten all their pieces together to construct beautiful, balanced, weather-ready wind chimes!
